Hospital Employee Arrested for Drug, Larceny Charges

Cory Laing was charged with possession of narcotics, possession of marijuana and petty larceny.

WINCHESTER, Va. -  A Winchester Medical Center employee has been arrested by the Northwest Virginia Region Drug Task Force.

Investigators received a tip of possible drug activity in the 1000 block of Franklin Street.

When they arrived on Tuesday, they found marijuana, prescription drugs and stolen medical supplies.

"Agents went out to the house, and made contact with the person who was there,” said Lauren Cummings, the Public Information Officer for the Winchester Police Department. “They got consent to search the residence. They went in and they found prescription drugs, stolen medical supplies and also marijuana."

Cory Laing was charged with possession of narcotics, possession of marijuana and petty larceny.

He was taken to the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center, but has already been booked and released.

"This case is unique because we often don't find stolen medical supplies in someone's home," Cummings said.

Laing will appear in Winchester General District Court on April 18, 2014.

Winchester Medical Center would not comment on Laing's current employment status.

The case remains under investigation.
