Local Church Lends a Helping Hand

Residents came to the church to volunteer for the Trinity Meal Program, a unique event that brings together seniors and children that need free meals.
JEFFERSON COUNTY, W.Va. - St. Johns Lutheran Church in Jefferson County gave out free meals on Thursday.

Residents came to the church to volunteer for the Trinity Meal Program, a unique event that brings together seniors and children that need free meals. The church also provides educational activities for kids out of school.

Senator John Unger organized the event and said they are excited to be in there second week. He urged families to come out and volunteer at one of the four sites, or just come out and enjoy a free meal.

"One of the things that's so inspiring is when you bring a little child with a senior together, they both light up like Christmas trees, I mean there's just a lot of joy, a lot of laughter," said Senator John Unger.

Free meals are offered at St. Johns Lutheran Church Tuesdays and Thursdays, and at Bolivar United Methodist Church on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
