Man Arrested for Burglarizing Home

The Washington County Sheriff's Office has arrested Michael Wayne Hawbaker, 23, of Hagerstown for burglarizing two homes on Greendale Drive early Sunday morning.
HAGERSTOWN, Md. - The Washington County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a man with a gun on the 12000 block of Greendale Drive. It happened around 3:35 a.m. on Sunday. 

When deputies arrived on the scene, they found Michael Wayne Hawbaker, 23, of Hagerstown who matched the description of the suspect. Two handguns were lying on the ground near Hawbaker. 

It was reported Hawbaker was burglarizing a home when a resident inside confronted him. After an altercation between Hawbaker and the resident, Hawbaker fled by foot. 

A short time after, Hawbaker arrived back at the resident's home and began to yell, scream and kick the front door. Hawbaker had a handgun with him and pointed it at the resident and other people inside the home. 

Further investigation revealed Hawbaker had broken into another home on Greendale Drive after the altercation. Hawbaker stole two handguns, and other property before going back to confront the resident from the first incident. 

Hawbaker has been taken into custody. He has been charged with three counts of first degree assault, three counts of second degree assault, two counts of first degree burglary, two counts of fourth degree burglary, theft of $1,000 to $10,000, theft less than $100, malicious destruction of property, possession of CDS marijuana, and carrying a deadly weapon on hand. 

Hawbaker is currently being held at the Washington County Detention Center on a $350,000 bond.
