Man Arrested for Child Abuse and Assault

Charles George, 32, of Cumberland has been arrested for second degree child abuse and second degree assault.
CUMBERLAND, Md. - On Saturday around 5:13 p.m., Cumberland City Police officers responded to a house on Pennsylvania Avenue for a reported disturbance.

The investigation revealed family members were upset over the treatment of a child.

Charles George, 32, of Cumberland was arrested for striking the child in the buttocks with a canvas material type dog leash. The injuries were visible on the child that said he was whipped by George with the leash earlier in the day.

George was placed in custody and transported to the Cumberland City Police Department where he was charged and processed.

George was taken to the Allegany County District Court Commissioner's Office for a bond hearing and was released on a $10,000 unsecured bond pending trial at the Allegany County District Court. The child did not need medical attention.

George has been charged with second degree child abuse and second degree assault.
