Man Crashes Vehicle and Attempts to Stab Troopers

Troopers from the Pennsylvania State Police York Barracks found a 40-year old male driver who crashed outside of an apartment complex and attempts to cut himself with a knife.
SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Troopers with Pennsylvania State Police York barracks responded to the 6600 block of Reynolds Mill Road for a reported vehicle crash around 1:10 a.m.

When troopers arrived on the scene, they found a 40-year old man in the vehicle which had struck several parked cars and a telephone pole outside of an apartment.

As troopers attempted to approach the man, the man was cutting himself with an 8-inch folding knife. Troopers attempted to stop the man but he refused to listen.

Troopers then tried to calm him down with pepper spray and tasers but was unsuccessful. The man then ran towards the troopers with the knife, and were forced to shoot the man, killing the man.

The man's name is not being released at the moment. This incident is under investigation. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

White Rose EMS, Goodwill Fire Company, and Fire Police assisted on the scene. Neither of the troopers were injured.
