Man Faces Charges in Hagerstown Heroin Bust

Officials with the Washington County Narcotics Task Force and Special Response Team executed a search warrant in Hagerstown Wednesday, finding a large amount of heroin, crack cocaine, and a stolen gun.
HAGERSTOWN, Md. - After executing a search warrant at a Hagerstown home, police in Washington County said a man is facing several drugs and weapons charges.  According to officials with the Washington County Narcotics Task Force and Washington County Special Response Team a search of 332 S. Mont Valla Avenue turned up large amounts of heroin, crack cocaine, ecstasy, and three handguns, one of which was reported stolen last year.

The man who lives at that address is in custody, according to officials.  They say Delano Butler was arrested in Martinsburg, W.Va., Wednesday. Officers executed the search warrant at his house in Hagerstown, Md., as he was being taken into custody in West Virginia.

Police said the search and arrest are the result of an in-depth investigation.  During the month of February, agents with the Washington County Narcotics Task Force were contacted by agents with the Eastern Panhandle Violent Crimes Drug Task force regarding persons dealing heroin and other drugs between Hagerstown and Martinsburg.

Delano Butler, and his father Alan Butler were identified by police as suspects in the drug investigation.  Both had extensive prior criminal histories involving the distribution of drugs and weapons violations.  Police said several undercover buys were made from both Delano and Alan Butler involving the sale of heroin and crack cocaine.

Police said they have seen an increase in heroin abuse in the Washington County area over the past six months.  During the month of February, they said the Washington County Narcotics Task Force has made a total of 30 arrests for drug violations, 23 of which involved heroin.
