Man Surrenders in Barricade Situation at Frederick Hotel

Maryland State Police say a 41-year-old Virginia man surrendered after a six hour barricade situation at a Frederick hotel, near the Francis Scott Key Mall.

FREDERICK, Md - After six hours on the scene, police agencies, SWAT team members and Fire and Rescue crews were able to say the barricade situation at the Country Inn & Suites in Frederick had been resolved peacefully.

41-year-old David M. Fioramonti of Purcellville, Virginia, surrendered around 5:15 Tuesday evening. Fioramonti is a wanted sex offender, who has previously been convicted for possession of child pornography, according to the Virginia State Fugitive Task Force Website.

Police say the man was staying at the hotel in Frederick for an extended time. They say when police knocked on the door of his hotel room, he said he was armed.

“He said he had a gun and to go away. They immediately began communicating with him and negotiators from the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland State Police responded,” said Maryland State Police spokesperson Greg Shipley.

Officials were on the scene from 11:15am to 5:15pm communicating with the man. Nearly 30 hotel guests evacuated, along with many hotel employees.

Police say the man eventually surrendered and is now being treated for self-inflicted stab wounds.

“He has multiple what appear to be stab wounds, we’re not sure what he used at this point but he did require medical observation,” said Shipley.

Police say they did call in the bomb squad when they found out the man had been staying at the hotel for weeks, and will obtain a search warrant to conduct a search of the hotel room.

“He will then be in the custody of federal authorities who issued this warrant for him, so we will be turning him over to federal authorities,” said Shipley.

Fioramonti is receiving medical treatment and was taken to Shock Trauma in Baltimore by the Maryland State Police helicopter.

As of 6:00pm: SWAT team members and other law enforcement officials say the ongoing barricade situation at a hotel in Frederick has officially been resolved.

Crews say the fugitive, David M. Fioramonti, 41, of Purcellville, Va., was transported to Shock Trauma in Baltimore. Police tell WHAG he was found with what they believed to be multiple stab wounds to the torso. Police say they do not know what the man used to stab himself at this time.

As we've reported, multiple crews were on the scene at the Country Inn & Suites at 5579 Spectrum Drive, near the Francis Scott Key Mall since 11:15 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Police say a special unit from MSP and the sheriff's office were negotiating with the man throughout the afternoon. They say he had a federal warrant out for his arrest from the Eastern District of Virginia for a violation of probation.

According to troopers on scene, when they first approached the door at the hotel, the man told police he had a gun and to go away. According to Spokesman Greg Shipley, no shots were fired and the man actually never had a gun in his possession.

Police continue to investigate and say they will obtain a search warrant to go inside the man's room. They say he had been staying at the hotel for several weeks.

The hotel plans to reopen to welcome back in guests. The hotel had previously cleared out most of their workers and 30 guests.
