McConnellsburg Woman Makes History as She Graduates

A local woman was the first female student to graduate from Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautic's Hagerstown Campus.
Hagerstown, MD - A McConnellsburg woman made history Friday.

Lexie Shore is the first woman to graduate from the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics' Hagerstown campus.

"It's a big accomplishment...It was hard to get here but I pushed through it and I'm here now, said Shore.   The 19 year-old originally wanted to be an interior designer, but changed her mind after P.I.A. made a presentation at her high school.

"I felt like this was a growing career field," said Shore.  "Something that I could get a great career in."

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, women represent just 2% of airplane mechanics nationwide.  Bernand Adams, Director of P.I.A.'s Hagerstown campus, said Lexie is a pioneer.

"She is a pioneer.  She came here, other women hopefully it will excite them to come here and get into the field also," said Adams.

The new graduate said she has accepted a job at GE in Sterling, Virginia.   11 students, including Shore, graduate from P.I.A.'s Hagerstown campus Friday.
