Meals on Wheels Aims to Serve Homebound Residents in Need

Currently Meals on Wheels delivers food to folks on 12 separate routes in and around Frederick City, Walkersville, Woodsboro, Emmitsburg, Thurmont, Brunswick and Urbana.
FREDERICK COUNTY, Md. - The Frederick County Department of Aging Meals on Wheels aims to provide nutritious meals to homebound residents throughout the area, officials say.

Currently Meals on Wheels delivers food to folks on 12 separate routes in and around Frederick City, Walkersville, Woodsboro, Emmitsburg, Thurmont, Brunswick and Urbana.

Organizers say general eligibility criteria from the program includes; one must be unable to leave their home without assistance, you must live alone without regular caregiver support, you currently have physical and/or cognitive limitations that interfere with the ability to shop for and/or prepare food, you can eat and be alone safely, you may be at nutritional risk, and you understand and agree to participate in the guidelines and responsibilities. 

Meals on Wheels primarily serves adults ages 60 and over, a limited number of meals are available for eligible adults ages 18-59. Officials say although meal recipients are encouraged to contribute financially toward the average weekly meal cost of $50 for ten meals, no senior is ever denied meals due to inability to contribute, thanks to donations.
