One Dead in I-66 Collision

I-66 is closed at the 13 mile marker for an undetermined amount of time following a fatal accident involving a fully loaded gasoline tanker and a car early Friday morning.

WARREN COUNTY, Va. – We’re following a hazmat situation on Interstate 66 in Warren County where officials have responded to a fatal two-vehicle crash involving a car and a fuel tanker truck along mile marker 11.

The west bound lane is still shut down until at least 1 PM. Crews are working to clean up, and offload, the 8,000 gallons of fuel. If they can’t offload the fuel, officials say they’ll have to cap it.

Officials are still encouraging everyone to stay off of I-66, and just stay home.

There’s also a second, smaller hazmat situation in Front Royal, where an old fuel tank has been pushed to the surface due to flooding in a neighborhood. The Warren County Fire Marshal is on the scene investigating.

Due to all of the severe weather and flooding in Warren County, officials have opened a shelter for anyone who needs it. Officials did have to make evacuations and perform water rescues as well.

The river is expected to reach flood stage by midnight. And Warren County Public Schools are closed today.
