Police: Winchester Man Arrested for Grand Larceny

On July 8, 2014 officers responded to the 300 block of Fairview Avenue for a burglary, police say. A resident said he came home to find that someone had broken into his house and stolen a number of his firearms, a knife, a gaming system and lawn equipment.
WINCHESTER, Va. - A Winchester man has been arrested after police say he stole a number of items from a home in the City. 

Officers with the Winchester Police Department took Matthew James Elliott, 27, into custody Thursday evening and charged him with grand larceny. 

On July 8, 2014 officers responded to the 300 block of Fairview Avenue for a burglary, police say. A resident said he came home to find that someone had broken into his house and stolen a number of his firearms, a knife, a gaming system and lawn equipment. 

After further investigation, detectives were able to identify the intruder as Elliott. He was arrested Thursday and taken to the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center where he was released on a $5,000 unsecured bond. 

All of the items taken from the home on Fairview Avenue were recovered, police say. Additional charges are pending.
