Weather Alert: A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued until 8:00 PM tonight for the following counties:

In Maryland: Allegany, Garrett and Washington
In Pennsylvania: Adams, Bedford, Franklin, Fulton and Somerset
In West Virginia: Berkeley, Grant, Hampshire, Hardy, Mineral, Morgan and Jefferson

Remember, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for the development of severe weather including damaging winds, hail and heavy rainfall in and close to the watch box area. Persons in these areas should remain alert for rapidly changing weather conditions and stay tuned for further updates and possible warnings.

Weather Synopsis: Severe Weather is likely over portions of the area this afternoon and evening. The Storm Prediction Center has placed a Moderate Risk for severe weather over Garrett County, MD as well as Bedford and Somerset Counties in PA. The rest of the area is under a Slight Risk for severe weather.

Thunderstorms that develop this afternoon and evening will be capable of producing damaging winds in excess of 60 MPH, along with large hail and a few tornadoes are possible too. These thunderstorms, and the ones we see on Wednesday are going to be along and ahead of the cold front that will move through the area as we get into late Wednesday. Once that front rolls through, we will be dry for the rest of the week, as high pressure will move into the region keeping us dry, before more chances of showers and thunderstorms move in for the weekend and early next week, along with the return of heat and humidity, with daytime highs back in the 90’s once again.

Stay alert for rapidly changing weather conditions this afternoon and evening.

Have a great evening, and we’ll keep you ahead of the storms over the next few days.

See you on WHAG News at 7:00 and 11:00 PM!
