Weather Alert: A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for Frederick County, MD and Loudoun County, VA until 10:00 PM tonight. A few thunderstorms could be severe with damaging winds in excess of 60 MPH, quarter sized hail and heavy rainfall.

Weather Synopsis: Yesterday’s widespread damaging wind event left behind a lot of tree damage, as well as downed power lines, leaving thousands in the dark from last night and into this morning. Wind gusts of 60-70 MPH occurred with these storms in a very short period of time. Today, we’re looking at more showers and thunderstorms, but not early as wide spread as we saw on Tuesday. Once these storms move out, we’re looking at a few dry days head in the forecast.

Showers and thunderstorms that do develop through the mid evening tonight could be strong to severe with damaging winds being the primary threat along with heavy rainfall and the potential for some hail. Once that front rolls through, we will be dry for the rest of the week. High pressure will build back into the region for the end of the work week, bringing lower humidity values and a break from the heat and humidity.

As we move into the weekend and the beginning of next week, we bring back the chances for showers and thunderstorms with a return to the heat and humidity, so enjoy these next few days.

See you on WHAG News at 7:00 and 11:00 PM!
