Smithsburg EMS Respond to Two Men Trapped in Car

Two adult males were trapped in a pickup truck Saturday morning around 5:08 a.m. and struck a utility pole on the 21900 block of Leitersburg Smithsburg Road.
HAGERSTOWN, Md. - Smithsburg EMS responded to the 21900 block of Leitersburg Smithsburg Road, near  Brook Lane Health Services Saturday around 5:08 a.m. 

 A two-door older model pickup truck flew off the roadway and struck a utility pole in half that was later pulled from the ground.

Two adult males were trapped in the truck. The passenger was first extricated by crews from Leitersburg Volunteer Fire Company and Smithsburg Volunteer Fire Company. He was transported by an ambulance from Community Rescue Service to Meritus as a trauma patient. He is listed in serious but stable condition.

The driver was heavily trapped inside the truck and extrication took longer than planned. Smithsburg EMS treated the driver at the scene. A Maryland State Police helicopter and Trooper 3 out of Frederick landed in a nearby soccer field.

Once extricated, the driver was further treated and evaluated for his injuries. He was transported by the Smithsburg WMS ambulance to the landing zone.

Trooper 3 flew the driver to Shock Trauma in Baltimore with serious injuries.
