Suspect Caught in Chase Spanning Two States

A man is in custody following a high speed chase that ended in Washington Township, Pennsylvania.
WHAG NEWS - A man is in custody following a high speed chase that ended in Washington Township, Pennsylvania. 

The incident happened around 3:49 p.m. Thursday in the area of Buchanan Trail East and Midvale Road in Washington Township. 

Joshua David Gingell, 25, was wanted by the Franklin County Sheriff's Department on a failure to appear warrant on multiple charges including accidents involving death, personal injury while not properly licensed, hit and run, and driving without a license. 

Officers observed Gingell in the area and attempted to pull him over. They say Gingell fled south on Midvale Road, traveling at 95 mph, and passing vehicles in a no-passing zone.

Gingell then continued into Maryland on Route 418 towards Leitersburg driving in the wrong direction. He approached the intersection of MD 418 and 60, and eventually got onto MD 418. At this time the pursuit was joined by a Maryland State Trooper. 

The chase continued north on MD 418 back to the Pennsylvania state line at the intersection of Buchanan Trail East and Midvale. Gingell eventually got on to Mentzer Gap Road, into Michaux State Park on Rattlesnake Run Road. 

According to officers, Gingell was intercepted and taken into custody near the intersection of Rattlesnake Run Road and Old Forge Road. 

Gingell committed multiple traffic violations including passing in a no passing zone, passing on the right, traveling the wrong direction in the opposing lane of traffic, and reaching speeds of 95 mph with moderate traffic on the roadways. 

Gingell is charged with felony fleeing and eluding police. He's currently being held at the Franklin County Jail.
