Telephone Fraud Scheme Targeting Frederick Residents

Officers with the Frederick Police Department are investigating a telephone fraud scheme reported throughout the area.
FREDERICK, Md. - Officers with the Frederick Police Department are investigating a telephone fraud scheme reported throughout the area.

Police say the callers are identifying themselves as "Pre Trail Processing". They say the phone number they are calling from is 206-430-5347. A search of the phone number shows it's originating from Seattle, Washington.

Officers say several calls to the Pre Trail Processing resulted in new case numbers each time claiming the victim owed money for a loan that they defaulted on. The caller would not provide a name or location of their company, or the company that had reportedly hired them to pursue the defaulted account.

According to police, the callers requested the last four digits of the victims social security number to access their account. They say the caller was threatening on the phone, and told the victim they needed to pay immediately or the police would come and arrest them.

Officers with the Frederick Police Department would like to remind residents to take extreme caution with their personal information.

Ways to protect your identity:
  • Do not give out personal information over the phone
  • Do not send money to someone you do not know
  • Do not agree to deposit a check and wire money back
  • Do online searches of companies, phone numbers and websites. Always ask for their name, company name and a call back number.

Police say if you received a call and you think it's fraud, please file a report through the Federal Trade Commission at www.econsumer.gov. Also, if you receive unsolicited spam or email send it to spam@uce.gov.
