Two Arrested for Distribution of Heroin in Frederick

Investigators say they received information about an unreported heroin overdose from the night before. That same day, members executed a "buy/bust" operation with the suspected dealer.
FREDERICK, Md. - Members with the Frederick Police Department's Drug Enforcement Unit recently arrested two residents in connection to possessing and distributing heroin within the City. 

Members say on the morning of March 5, 2014 they received information about an unreported heroin overdose from the night before. That same day, members executed a "buy/bust" operation with the suspected dealer. 

The target of the operation, identified as Ashley Renee Dewitt, 22, sold a quantity of heroin to an undercover officer. Dewitt was also accompanied by a second person, identified later as 31-year-old Daniel Alexander Russell. Russell assisted Dewitt with the transaction. 

Police arrested Dewitt and Russell and charged both with distribution of heroin, conspiracy to distribute heroin, possession with the intent to distribute heroin, conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute heroin, possession of heroin, and conspiracy to possess heroin. 

Russell was also charged with possession of marijuana less than 10 grams. 

Both were taken to the detention center for further processing.
