First responders were called to the house around 2 p.m. Saturday along the 13000 block of Distant View Avenue. Deputies say emergency personnel administered first aid to the child after the family was already conducting CPR.
MAUGANSVILLE, Md. - A toddler has died after falling into a pool this past weekend, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies confirmed a 2-year-old boy died after falling into a private pool in Maugansville. The incident happened on Saturday afternoon, where police say the young boy got away from family and fell into standing water on the pool's winter cover.

First responders were called to the house around 2 p.m. along the 13000 block of Distant View Avenue. Deputies say emergency personnel administered first aid to the child after the family was already conducting CPR.

"[It] had a winterized cover on it but due to rain that we had over the week, there was actually standing water in the cover and the child managed to get onto the cover, and ending up drowning," said Deputy Carly Hose, Washington County Sheriff's Office.

The young boy was initially taken to Meritus Medical Center and then transported to Children's Hospital in Washington, D.C. where he was pronounced dead.

Deputies are calling the incident a tragic accident. No charges have been filed.
