WASHINGTON COUNTY, Md. - A serious rollover accident along Interstate-70 Thursday afternoon has claimed the life of one woman.

Maryland State Police Hagerstown Barracks say the crash happened around 1 p.m. along I-70 eastbound at mile marker 21.

Police identified the victim as Helen Rose, 40, of Virginia. The Driver was her father-in-law, Ernest Jones, 75, of Cumberland.

Troopers say traffic was stopped due to construction, and the driver was distracted.

He swerved to the right, went off of the road where he went up an embankment, crashing into two small trees before flipping over.

Jones was transported by ambulance to the hospital, while Rose was flown to the hospital with serious injuries by MD State Police Trooper 3 helicopter.

Troopers say Rose died from her injuries Thursday afternoon at Meritus Medical Center.

The Interstate was shut down between Exit 18 Clear Spring and Exit 24 (Md 63 Huyetts), while State Police and emergency crews were on the scene.

The eastbound lanes of I-70 were completely reopened around 3 p.m. Thursday.
