Update: Police Investigating Apparent Murder-Suicide in Halfway

Officials with the Washington County Sheriff's Office are investigating an apparent murder-suicide that happened Thursday afternoon at a home on Dawn Drive in Halfway.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Md. - Investigators with the Washington County Sheriff's Office are investigating an apparent murder-suicide.  Officials said deputies were called to 17511 Dawn Drive in Halfway for a report of injured persons at 4:21 p.m. Thursday. 

When deputies arrived on the scene, they forced entry into the home where they discovered three deceased adults in the kitchen.

Officials with the Washington County Sheriff's Office have identified the individuals as Christopher Michael Wachter, 23, Kimberly Ann Smit, 47, and William Frank Smith Jr., 54.  Police said Wachter was the son of Kimberly Smith and the step-son of William Smith Jr.   All three lived at the home.

After their preliminary investigation, officials believe William Smith Jr. killed Kimberly Smith and Wachter before he shot himself in the chest.

Police said Wachter suffered multiple stab wounds.  Kimberly Smith suffered multiple stab wounds and a gunshot wound in the chest.

The firearm used in the incident is believed to be a shotgun that police recovered at the scene.

The deceased were transported to the Medical Examiner's Office in Baltimore for autopsy.

Officials said their investigation is ongoing.
