UPDATE: Tire Blowout Caused Interstate 70 EB Tractor Trailer Accident

Maryland State Police in Hagerstown say their preliminary investigation indicates a tire blowout had caused the driver of the tractor trailer to lose control of the vehicle.
WASHINGTON COUNTY, Md. - New information has been released on the Interstate-70 eastbound tractor trailer accident that happened on Saturday around 7 a.m.

Maryland State Police in Hagerstown say their preliminary investigation indicates a tire blowout had caused the accident, and the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The tractor trailer was driven by Lawrence Thomas, 37, when he was traveling eastbound, struck a guardrail, and overturned in the center median.

Police say traffic had to be detoured for more than 12 hours onto the Route 63 ramp.

Thomas was taken to Meritus Medical Center with no update on his current condition.
