MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A shooting at the Townes of Willow Tree apartments shocked neighbors and workers where a young woman was found with a gunshot wound to her face."To me it was a shock because nothing like that goes on here," said Paul Miller, a maintenance worker. "It was a total surprise."
Taylor Hawkridge, 22, was found in the driveway of her apartment of off Andalusian Drive when police arrived around 3:30 a.m. Saturday.
"Nothing like that has ever happened here," Miller added. "I've been the maintenance man here for six or seven years."
Neighbors said they heard at least two gunshots go off early Saturday morning, which woke them up. They also said they're shocked something like this happened in their own neighborhood because everyone keeps to themselves.
"It's just always peaceful and quiet, that's what I tell everybody," Miller said. "Nothing ever goes on."
Hawkridge was transported to Berkeley Medical Center then transferred to Winchester Medical Center where she was placed on life support. She was later pronounced dead.
Witnesses say they saw a dark-colored sport vehicle flee the scene shortly after they heard the gunshots. The investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact West Virginia State Police at 304-267-0042.
