W.Va. Man Arrested for Allegedly Stealing from Cemetery Caskets

Police have arrested a man for allegedly stealing from caskets at a cemetery in Berkeley County.

MARTINSBURG, WV- Police have arrested a man for allegedly stealing from caskets at a cemetery in Berkeley County.

West Virginia State Police say 24 year-old David Paul Bowers, of Hedgesville, and two other men broke into the mausoleums Thursday at the Rosedale Cemetery in Martinsburg.

Police say they tried to steal jewelry from the bodies. Bowers has been charged with destruction of property and displacement of a body.

Locals say they’re appalled that someone would do such a thing.

"I think it's a horrible thing to go, my own grandmother is buried there, and I wouldn't want someone to go dig up her grave and steal jewelry off her.  That's it's not right," said Mikayla Bass, a Berkeley County Resident.

The other men involved have not been charged yet.
