Drunk Driving Accident Causes Power Outages in Maryland and West Virginia

Several homes in Maryland and West Virginia were without power Wednesday night and into Thursday morning after a car crashed into a power line.
CUMBERLAND, Md. - Cumberland City Police say a drunk driving accident Wednesday night was the cause of widespread power outages in the four-state region.

Police say the driver, Shaun Spears, 29, was traveling eastbound on Industrial Boulevard at Thomas Street when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a fire hydrant before slamming into a power pole.

Through their investigation, Cumberland Police officers determined Sears was under the influence of alcohol.

Police say no one was hurt in the crash, and Sears has been charged with driving under the influence.
