Fire Destroys Barn in Smithsburg

First arriving units say the barn was fully engulfed in flames with the roof collapsed.
SMITHSBURG, Md. - Frederick County Fire and Rescue are investigating after a fire completely destroyed a barn in Smithsburg late Thursday night.

It happened around 11:18 p.m. on 12827 Loy Wolfe Road.

First arriving units say the barn was fully engulfed in flames with the roof collapsed. The Incident Commander on scene quickly requested additional water tankers, because there was no public water system in the immediate area, and established a water supply shuttle.

Fire officials say the bulk of the fire was out at 12:03 a.m. and crews worked to extinguish hot spots and monitor conditions.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Initial damage estimates place the total loss at $50,000.
