Firefighters Sell Shirts for Breast Cancer Fund

Firefighters in Frederick County, Maryland have designed and are selling their own hot pink shirts to raise money for the Patty Hurwitz Breast Cancer Fund.
FREDERICK, Md. - Firefighters in Frederick County, Maryland have designed and are selling their own hot pink shirts to raise money for the Patty Hurwitz Breast Cancer Fund.

"Pink is not my favorite color. However, for the cause I do not mind wearing pink nor do my other co-workers in the fire department mind wearing pink to show our support for the cause and to help donate and raise funds for the Patty Hurwitz Fund," said Steven Williams, a technician with Frederick County Division of Fire and Rescue Services.

You can buy a t-shirt or women's cut shirt for $15, a long sleeve shirt for $20, or a hoodie for $25.

"Almost every firefighter has made a purchase, a contribution to the fund by placing an order for a t-shirt," Williams said. "Our chief has allowed us to wear the shirt on duty for the full month of October."

The sale runs through the end of October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. So far, firefighters have sold more than 2,300 shirts to raise almost $40,000 for the fund.

"It's very important because breast cancer and all kinds of cancer are streaming worldwide, so the awareness is very good," Williams said. "The fund coming in will help support someone fighting breast cancer and be able to help them."
