First War Memorial Coming to Mercersburg

First War Memorial Coming to Mercersburg

Mercersburg will be getting their first ever War Memorial in time for Veterans Day.

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - For several years the notion of placing a memorial in Mercersburg to honor local Veterans was just an idea. That's about to change.

"Post 517 is building a veteran memorial to honor all Veterans that served in all the wars," said Dale Thatcher, memorial designer.

But after receiving tremendous support from the community, including a donation of $5,000 from the First National Bank of Mercersburg, the memorial is well in the making.

With the concrete already molded into the ground, the memorial will be placed at the north end of Mercergsburg next to the First National Bank, a location that will bring much visibility as drivers pass by.

"The bank on Keefers Drive. The vantage point is it gets more exposer," said Thatcher.

The making of the memorial is in its final stages and is expected to be complete in time for its dedication ceremony on Veterans Day.
