The former chief of the Halfway Volunteer Fire Company came to an agreement Tuesday in court on theft charges stemming from missing money from the fire department.
WASHINGTON COUNTY, Md. - The former chief of the Halfway Volunteer Fire Company came to an agreement Tuesday in court on theft charges stemming from missing money from the fire department.

Officials with Washington County Circuit Court say Jeffrey Ringer entered an Alford plea, which means he admitted the court had enough evidence against him.

According to court documents, Ringer entered pleas to charges of theft and theft scheme under $500, compared to previous charges of theft of more than $500.

Officials say each charge carries a maximum sentence of 18 months.

Ringer is scheduled to appear in court on January 21, 2014 for sentencing.
