According to Deputies with the Frederick County Sheriff's Office, Loris Racey, 66, died on scene just after 2 p.m. at the intersection of Wardensville Grade and U.S. 50.
Officials say Racey was exiting Route 608 in a Ford Taurus Station Wagon onto Route 50 west, when he collided with a Dodge Ram pickup truck. Witnesses on scene report that the station wagon had initially stopped at the stop sign, and proceeded to cross the eastbound lanes to go west, and possibly didn't see the oncoming truck.
The driver of the pickup truck tried to go as far left as he could before striking the station wagon's driver's side door, according to deputies.
The driver of the pickup was taken to Winchester Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.
The area was shut down for 15 minutes as crews on scene were able to open up one lane. Deputies later had to shut down the entire roadway again for 20 minutes to remove the vehicles from the scene. Crews were there for close to two hours.
