Frederick Officer Resigns After Facing Theft Charges

FREDERICK, Md. - A former Frederick City Police Officer resigned October 11 after nearly eight years service, after officials say she used stolen gift cards.

Defense Attorney John Salvatore says Charity Hoxie, of Waynesboro, Md., made restitution of just over $127 after she used Bed, Bath and Beyond gift cards at a Hagerstown store.

On Monday, Hoxie didn't appear at a theft charges hearing in Washington County Circuit Court as prosecutors agreed to dismiss charges if Hoxie resigned then repaid the gift cards' owner.

Hoxie's defense attorney says it's unclear how she got a hold of the cards. They were reported stolen last year from an apartment in Montgomery County.
