Front Royal Man Arrested in Texas Police Stand-Off

Police say a fugitive from Front Royal, Va., was captured during a four hour stand-off with police in Texas last Friday.
FRONT ROYAL, Va. - Officers say a fugitive from Front Royal, Va., was captured during a four hour stand-off with police in Texas last Friday. 

Police say on Sept. 27, 2013 David Daryll Robert Thurber, 42, led the Rockwall Police Department in Texas on a 15 minute chase after officers discovered the vehicle he was driving came back as stolen from the state of Florida. 

Officers say Thurber barricaded himself inside the vehicle for four hours with two stolen firearms. Officers say they were finally able to lay some spike strips down on the road to stop Thurber. He was taken into custody and charged with possession of a firearms by a convicted felon, evading law enforcement and unlawful use of a vehicle. 

Police say Thurber was charged in Front Royal on Sept. 13, 2013 for felony grand larceny. After an extensive investigation and numerous interviews, it was discovered by police Thurber had stolen a safe containing a large amount of cash and valuable coins from a local home. Front Royal Police were able to track Thurber to St. Petersburg, Florida and then to Memphis, Tennessee before the trail went cold before being contacted by the Rockwell Police Department. 

According to police, Thurber is currently being held in Rockwell, Texas and has pending charges in Arkansas, Florida, as well as Front Royal, Virginia.
