Harpers Ferry Man Faces Burglary Charges

Deputies say a Harpers Ferry man is facing burglary charges after he attempted to break into a vacant house late Sunday night.
FREDERICK COUNTY, Md. - Deputies with the Frederick County Sheriff's Office say a Harpers Ferry man is facing burglary charges after he attempted to break into a vacant house late Sunday night.

It happened around 11:57 p.m. in the 4200 block of Basford Road.

The first arriving deputy said when they arrived on the scene, they saw Edgar B. Browne's, 40, of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., Buick parked at the house. They say Browne left the house and a second deputy spotted him speeding out of the area.

Deputies say they followed Browne to Rt. 15 and Rt. 464 where they attempted to pull him over. Browne failed to stop and continued down Rt. 464 to the dead end of Boss Arnold Road. The Buick then struck a metal farm gate and crashed through a field.

Deputies say when they got to the vehicle, it was abandoned. A Sheriff's office K-9 team tracked Browne and found him lying in a wooded area a short distance from the Buick.

The investigation revealed that two of the garage window panes at the house were broken, but Browne never gained access into the building.

Browne is charged with fourth-degree burglary. He's currently being held at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center's Central Booking Unit.
