HCC Celebrates MLK Day in a Unique Way

HAGERSTOWN, Md. - Earlier on Monday, Hagerstown Community College celebrated Martin Luther King's birthday in a unique way.

HCC held their Martin Luther King Jr. diversity celebrations in the Keplen Theatre, where there were dance performances, poetry readings and a dramatic rendition of Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech by Pastor Darin Mency.

"I think he would be pleased to see that we have an African American president and that we're making great strides, but at the same time he would have to say that the works not done. That we still have a long way to go, that we could watch the news and see the controversy around Ms. America and realize we still have race issues," said Dion Jordan, keynote speaker.

Organizers say they're proud of the turn around and are hoping to do it again next year.
