Historical Bridge Damaged in Thurmont

First built in 1880, the Loys Station Covered Bridge located on the 3600 block of Old Frederick Road serves as a crossing over Owens Creek.
THURMONT, Md. - Officials say a local historical bridge is significantly damaged. The Frederick County Bureau of Investigation is asking for the public's help in finding the culprits responsible.

First built in 1880, the Loys Station Covered Bridge located on the 3600 block of Old Frederick Road serves as a crossing over Owens Creek. Officials say the damage was discovered on Tuesday. They suspect the damage occurred between 8 a.m. and 2:45 p.m.

Officials say it appears that a large vehicle or possibly a piece of high profile equipment entered the bridge and struck the support, ripping it out of the beam.

Anyone with information about the damage is asked to call Capt. Tim Clarke with the Frederick County Sheriff's Office at (301)-600-3643.
