WASHINGTON COUNTY, Md. - Maryland State Police say Interstate-81 northbound near exit 9, that's the Maugans Avenue exit, was shut down for hours Friday morning due to a serious tractor trailer accident.

The identity and condition of the driver are still unknown, but according to Maryland State Police, the accident involved just one person, initially.

Corporal Chris Barnard says that the driver was pinned inside the cab of the truck before he was taken out and flown by Trooper 3 to Meritus Medical Center.

Barnard said the road conditions should not have been a factor, and there are no witnesses to the accident. So they're asking if anyone who has any information to contact Maryland State Police Hagerstown barrack at (301)-766-3810.

"We have one lane open now, the southbound is crawling because of people who are gawking. We'd appreciate if people didn't do that, and pay attention to driving," said Barnard.

Right across from the original tractor trailer accident on I-81 northbound near exit 9, we received word of another accident on I-81 southbound at the same exit. A truck carrying hay flipped on its side. We'll keep you updated on both of these accidents.
