Identity of Victim Released in Martinsburg Shooting

Martinsburg City Police are investigating a homicide that happened Monday evening when shots were fired in front of an apartment building on Pendleton Drive, leaving one man dead.
BERKELEY COUNTY, W.Va. - Martinsburg City Police are investigating a homicide that happened Monday night when shots were fired in front of an apartment building on Pendleton Drive, leaving one man dead.

"Just securing the crime scene. It was at night. It's kind of tough to locate evidence at night so we waited for day light to locate further evidence," said Detective Scott Doyle, Martinsburg City Police.

Two apartments were closed on Pendleton Drive with crime scene tape visible as investigators searched the area of evidence.

"The metal detector usage that you saw out here was attempting to locate shell casing from the incident," said Doyle.

Investigators say the shooting happened in front of apartment 314-B when the victim, Sencer Vancamp, and a friend were approached by two men with handguns.

The two men attempted to walk them into the apartment but instead took them to the next building where one of the suspects shot at the door.

"It's a fluid investigation that is still going on," said Doyle. "But after a preliminary, what we have is a male subject was shot twice. In the lower torso and the upper torso by two unknown black males."

Vancamp was transported to the hospital where he later died. No one else was injured.

As far as what led to the shooting, police aren't saying.

"We have some leads that we're following up on," said Doyle.

Investigators say Vancamp's body will be sent to Morgantown for an autopsy.
