Jefferson Co. Shelter Seeks Help from Community to Expand

Officials at the Animal Welfare Society of Jefferson County say more animals are being dropped off, yet there isn't enough room to house the animals.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, W.Va. - An animal shelter in Jefferson County is looking to expand, but officials say renovations can't happen without help from the community.

Officials at the Animal Welfare Society of Jefferson County say more animals are being dropped off, yet there isn't enough room to house the animals. So they’re starting a Build a Path to Success campaign.

Officials are asking locals to donate to the organization, and the funding will go towards building more rooms for the pets, along with a center to care for the sick animals.

"We are in desperate need of expansion, because the way the economy is now people are dropping off animals daily. We have cats and dogs that need homes. They need repairs. We need to get them fixed. We just need room,” said Anne Marie Kohlhepp, of Animal Welfare Society of Jefferson County.
