FREDERICK, MD - Frederick is home for Bryan Voltaggio of the restaurant Volt. The chef and his restaurants have become household names since his appearance on the television show Top Chef.

Voltaggio got his first taste of what it was like to work in a kitchen right here in his hometown of Frederick.

"Well I started cooking here locally when I about 14 at the Holiday Inn down the street, and served as a busboy and wanted to do something different so, I started cooking in the kitchen, really to earn extra money and it turned into a career," says Chef Bryan Voltaggio.

The Frederick man has since opened four restaurants in the area and has competed against other famed chefs from across the globe on national television. He's now on Top Chef Masters, which premiered Wednesday.

"I'm not playing for money and all those things. I'm playing for charity, for Share Our Strength, which is really important to us at Volt, and all of our partnerships. We've been contributing to No Kid Hungry for all of the five years we've been in Frederick. They raise money to help children in this country not only get food to eat, but they also support school programs," says Voltaggio.

Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry campaign helped pass the legislation for the School Breakfast Program in the State of Maryland.

People say Volt has become one of the, if not most popular restaurants in Frederick over the last five years.

"Definitely a landmark. The Volt is definitely a landmark," says Maria Ventouris of Reston, Virginia. "We are from out of town, we've been exploring different restaurants in the area and we heard that Frederick has some fantastic restaurants, and obviously we've heard of Volt."

This season of Top Chef Masters premiered Wednesday night and Voltaggio watched it right here at home in Frederick.
