Lock-Down Lifted at Elementary School, Manhunt Continues

Thaddeus Stevens Elementary School in Chambersburg, Pa., was on lock-down Wednesday after police say a man wanted for attempted kidnapping was in the area.
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Thaddeus Stevens Elementary School in Chambersburg, Pa., was on lock-down Wednesday after police say a man wanted for attempted kidnapping was in the area. 

Chambersburg City Police say around 7:54 a.m. they responded to 125 S. Main Street where they say Williams Daniels, of Naples, Florida, had tried to kidnap another woman at that location. They say around 11 a.m. Daniels was found in the area of Hollywell and Dump Road. Police say he fled on foot into a wooded area across from Thaddeus Stevens Elementary.

The school officially went on lock-down around 12:30 p.m., according to a school district representative on scene. Officials say Thaddeus Elementary was the only school affected. WHAG's Rose Lee was on the scene and reported a Md. State helicopter circling above the woods near the school. 

Pennsylvania State Police, Franklin County Sheriff's Office, along with Maryland State Police Air Unit assisted in the search. 

The Elementary school was put on modified lock-down around 1 p.m. and school officials were given permission by police to lift the lock-down around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Parents were allowed to come pick up their children. Officials report all students are safe. 

Chambersburg City Police say around 1:30 p.m. the search was called off and Daniels was not located. They say during the investigation a hand-gun was recovered on scene. Daniels is described as a black male, Haitian decent, 5'8", about 160 lbs, wearing a white t-shirt, blue jeans and sneakers. Officers say Daniels has a cornrow hairstyle that is collar length. His last known address is 2276 50th St. SW. Naples, Flordia 34116.

Police are currently obtaining a warrant out for Daniels arrest, charging him with attempted kidnapping, aggravated assault and possible other charges. 

The investigation is ongoing.
