Man Found Dead Beside Road in Hagerstown Identified

The Washington County Sheriff's Office says the man who was found dead beside Broadfording Road Sunday afternoon has been identified.

HAGERSTOWN, Md.- Deputies say they've identified the man who was found dead beside a roadway Sunday afternoon in Hagerstown.

Officials with the Washington County Sheriff's Office say a passerby spotted the body lying along side of the road around 5 p.m. in the 1600 block of Broadfording Road. They say the body was lying next to the bridge that crosses the Concocheague Creek between Hagerstown and Clear Spring.

Deputies say they are not releasing the name of the man at this time, pending family notification and further investigation into the case.

"It's an open active investigation, they're going to go through and now that they've identified the subject, we believe we've identified the subject then it'll be a matter of tracing where he was to see what happened," said Carly Hose, Deputy First Class with the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

The man has been taken to the Office of the Coroner in Baltimore for autopsy.

The cause of death is unknown at this time.
