A man wielding shotgun and wearing a green face mask and a ghillie suit robbed the gas station located at
“Hunters use it, military snipers use them,” said Berkeley County Sheriff Kenny Lemaster.
But police say this man was not hunting or on a military mission. His mission was to steal cash from the store.
Police say the suspect fled on foot after taking an undisclosed amount of money from the cashier.
Lemaster said although the use of disguises in robberies is not out of the ordinary, this is the first time in recent years that he has seen a robber use a ghillie suit in Berkeley County.
However, the suspect’s costume was not enough to cover up all the clues.
“As you look at the pictures, you can see he's pretty well camouflaged, but not enough that you couldn't tell he had blue eyes. And you could see his hands, which leads you to believe he's a white male. So you know it is a good camouflage outfit, but it's not really the best because you have to come in wearing that and it draws attention to you before you even get in the store,” said Lemaster.
Police have described the suspect a 6'2" white male with blue eyes. They are asking anyone with information about this robbery to come forward by calling the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department at (304)267-7000 or Berkeley County Crime Solvers at (304)-267-4999.
