Man Sent to Hospital in Tree Cutting Accident

In Morgan County, one man was taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after officials say a tree limb struck their head.
MORGAN COUNTY, W.Va. - Fire officials are warning residents of the dangers of chopping wood after one man was taken to the hospital with a serious head injury.

The Berkeley Springs Fire Department says the incident happened on Tuesday afternoon in the area of Mid Mountain Lane.

They say the man was chopping firewood when the tree limb fell and landed on top of his head.

He was taken to Winchester Medical Center for treatment.

Fire officials advise being extra careful when chopping wood by wearing the appropriate safety gear, working in a group and being aware of the surroundings.

"The main thing is to be extra careful and don't go by yourself," says Jon Harnison, Berkeley Springs Fire Department. "Whenever you're cutting a tree, you have got to look up into the tree and see where the dead limbs are."
