Man Stabs Himself Repeatedly After High-Speed Chase

James Poland of Frederick County has been charged with speeding and felony eluding after allegedly beginning a high speed chase around 1:30 am Wednesday morning.

Winchester, Va. --  James Poland of Frederick County has been charged with speeding and felony eluding after allegedly leading police on a high speed chase around 1:30 am Wednesday morning.

The pursuit started in Frederick County on I-81 northbound, after a deputy attempted to make a traffic stop for a violation.

Just prior to crossing the Virginia - West Virginia state line, Frederick County deputies deployed spike strips in an attempt to stop the vehicle.

West Virginia authorities picked up the chase, where eventually the driver lost control.

Police say they saw the driver was stabbing himself with a knife after the chase ended.

Poland has been taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment and his current condition is unknown.
