Maryland Route 194 Re-opens After Single-Vehicle Accident

A car struck a telephone pole and overturned on Route 194, north of Route 26 in Walkersville, Maryland Saturday morning.
FREDERICK COUNTY, MD - All lanes of Route 194 have opened back up after a single-vehicle collision on Saturday around 2:28 a.m.

The collision happened on Maryland Route 194 just north of the Maryland Route 26 intersection located in Walkersville.

When troopers from the Maryland State Police Frederick Barrack arrived at the scene, the collision involved a red Pontiac Firebird. Preliminary investigation revealed that the Pontiac was traveling Northbound on Route 194, when the driver of the Pontiac lost control of the car. The car then traveled into a field, before striking a telephone pole and then overturning.

There were three individuals in the car, one of which was trapped, carrying critical injuries. Once freed, the individual was flown to Baltimore Shock Trauma by MSP Trooper 3.

The driver of the car was transported by ambulance to Meritus Hospital Center with non-life threatening injuries. A third individual was later released from the scene after refusing further medical treatment by EMS personel.

The roadway was closed for an extended period of time while an investigation was being conducted. It is believed alcohol and speed were factors in this collision.

Name are not yet being released at this moment.
