Men Rob Hagerstown Jewelry Store with Hammer; Search Ongoing

The incident happened around 1:50 p.m. Wednesday at Bruce Carson Jewelers on Shank Farm Way in Hagerstown.
HAGERSTOWN, Md. - Officers with the Hagerstown Police Department are searching for two men after they say the duo robbed a local jewelry store armed with a hammer, and then fled the scene on foot. 

The incident happened around 1:50 p.m. Wednesday at Bruce Carson Jewelers on Shank Farm Way in Hagerstown. 

Officers say the two men entered the store, and one of them broke display cases with what appeared to be a hammer, while the other began sweeping jewelry out of the displays cases and into his jacket. 

The two were immediately confronted by an employee who was armed with a handgun, according to police. The employee challenged the two men, telling them to stop and firing a single round as a warning shot. 

According to police, the two men fled the store crossing over Leitersburg Pike and continuing toward Oakhill Avenue. A police K-9 was used to conduct a track but was unsuccessful. No one was hurt in the incident. 

The first suspect is described as a black male, with average height and build, wearing a gray hoodie. The second suspect is described as a black male, with average height and build, wearing a black "bubble style" coat and a white over blue sky cap with a knit ball on top.
