Middletown Man Dies in House Fire, Shooting

In Frederick County, fire and rescue says a Middletown man is dead after he intentionally set his house on fire Wednesday morning.
MIDDLETOWN, Md. - In Frederick County, fire and rescue says a Middletown man is dead after he intentionally set his house on fire Wednesday morning.

The Frederick County Sheriff's Office says the homeowner John Libeau, 61, intentionally set fire to his house on Pete Wiles Road in Middletown.

Officials believe this fire was in response to a recent divorce settlement that was finalized this Tuesday.

Libeau not only set his home on fire, but also spray-painted messages on the house walls and pool. He was flown to shock trauma in Baltimore for a self inflicted gunshot wound, where he later died Wednesday evening.

The investigation is still ongoing, and officials believe the house to be a total loss.
