FREDERICK, Md. - Efforts by Frederick County Commissioners to privatize the county owned nursing home and rehabilitation centers will be delayed.
The Frederick Zoning Board of Appeals reversed the city planning commission's decision Tuesday evening to allow the land to be subdivided. That must happen in order for the county to sell Montevue Assisted Living Center and Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center.
"This is just part of the process. From day one we understood what the boards of the city did. We were planning on it, and we're moving forward," said Billy Shreve, (R) - Frederick County commissioner.
Now the county can either challenge the decision in circuit court or send it back to the planning commission.
Commissioners are confident the privatization will still go through.
"It will go through," Shreve said. "It's just a matter of how long it takes. Any entity that goes through a planning process or decision board of any government entity plans on the decision being appealed in today's world, and they also plan on it going to circuit court."
Frederick County Commissioners plan to meet on Thursday, December 5, 2013 in a closed session on how to move forward.
