National Cancer Prevention Study Looking for Participants

Tuesday in Allegany County is the first enrollment day for a national cancer prevention study; it's taking place at the Western Maryland Health System.
ALLEGANY COUNTY, Md. - Tuesday in Allegany County is the first enrollment day for a national cancer prevention study; it's taking place at the Western Maryland Health System.

The American Cancer Society is conducting this cancer prevention study, and says it's a way to fight back against cancer. The study is trying to understand how genetics, life style and environmental factors may cause cancer.

It's a long-term study with the goal of 250 participants from Allegany County. The study is open to anyone:
  • between the ages of 30 and 65
  • never diagnosed with cancer (except basal cell or squamous cell skin cancer
  • willing to make a long-term commitment to fill-out lifestyle surveys mailed home every few years

The Allegany County enrollment takes place at the following (WALK-INS WELCOME):
  • Tuesday, September 10, 2 - 5:30 p.m. : Western Maryland Health System, Auditorium, Rooms 4, 5 & 6
  • Thursday, September 12, 3 - 6:30 p.m. : Frostburg State University, Cordts P.E. Center, Hall of Fame Room,
  • Saturday, September 14, 10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. : McCoole VFW, 21406 Queens Point Road, Westernport, MD
