Mechanics Thankful after Early Morning Fire

An early morning fire broke out at a garage in Walkersville where two mechanics run shops.
FREDERICK COUNTY, Md. - Firefighters were called to the 9900 block of Liberty Road in Walkersville early Sunday morning after fire broke out in a garage.

Nelson Castro runs an auto repair shop out of one half of the garage.

“I couldn't believe what has happened,” said Nelson Castro, who uses the garage to run his auto repair shop.

And his neighbor, rents this half of the garage and also repairs thing for people in the community. The Frederick man and Castro both say they’re just thankful no one was hurt.

“Nothing happened to anyone, it's material stuff you know,” said Castro.

The Walkersville Volunteer Fire Department and other local fire companies responded to the blaze. Officials estimate the fire left tens of thousands of dollars worth of damage.

Castro says while it will take some time to get his business back on its feet, he couldn’t be more thankful for the firefighters, and now for the help from family and friends.

“Thank you very much to the firefighters because I'm sure they showed up quickly, and did what they're supposed to do. Everybody is helping me out they're helping me, but we’re going to help our friend next door because he's the one who suffered the most,” said Castro.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
