Officers Step Up Patrols for Labor Day Travel

As you're out and about enjoying this Labor Day holiday or traveling back from the long weekend, Hagerstown City Police have increased units on the roads to keep everyone safe.

HAGERSTOWN, Md. -- As you're out and about enjoying this Labor Day holiday or traveling back from home from the long weekend, Hagerstown City Police has increased units on the roads this Monday to keep everyone safe.

Police officials say residents expect more traffic on the roads and in the city.

"Especially with people coming back or going to cookouts family events that's kind of standard. We know the increased traffic, so there are addition police out there on the streets," said Sgt. Stewart Heckman, Hagerstown City Police.

Officers advise drivers to look out for more people walking and children playing near the roads. They also say residents should be patience and alert as they travel to and from various holiday events throughout the day.

"Just be patient. Take your time," said Sgt. Heckman. "I know, it's a, you had a fun weekend or whatever happened. But take your time getting home your safety and everyone else's safety is our primary concern."

Officers say they expect the most traffic this afternoon and evening.
